Hi friends –
I have been reading with much interest the blogs about the Daughters of Zelophehad. There is much insight there, and I’m particularly interested in the aspect some of you have taken that women approached Moses for counsel on their own. It reminds me of John 4 and the Woman at the Well.

Anyway, I wanted to shed some light on the Daughters of Zelophehad in relation to the Blood Curse of Jeconiah in Jeremiah 22:30 and the event that you and I know as “the virgin birth”. As you know, the Lord pronounced a curse on the line of “Coniah”, or Jehoiachin in Jeremiah: “Write this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.” From 2Samuel 7:16 and Isaiah 22:22, we know that the key to the kingdom is the throne of David. Yet, we find in Matthew’s Gospel chapter 1 verse 11, that Jechoniah was in the line of David, specifically of Joseph, Mary’s husband (Luke 1:27).

OK, you and I shrug because we know that Joseph was not Christ’s “earthly father”: he was born of the Holy Ghost. Well, we have a problem, because 2Samuel 7:16 says that, “And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” Woops! To the Jewish mind (and to ours as well), the legal line, the authority, the “house” came from the father; yet the line of Joseph was cursed!

Interestingly enough, Mary is also in the line of David, but we find in Luke’s Gospel that she is from the second surviving son of Bathsheeba, Nathan. We can trace that lineage down to Heli, Mary’s father in Luke 3:23. This is where we also find that Joseph (Mary’s husband) was apparently adopted by Heli, becoming his “son”. We find that the word in the Greek, nomizo (Strong’s G3543) refers to a son in law, or one reckoned by law.

Enter the daughters of Zelophehad. In Numbers 27, we have this rather strange (to the Jewish mind at least) petition by the Daughters of Zelophehad to be able to carry on the inheritance of their father themselves in the absence of a direct male heir – brothers. As you know, it is requested of Moses, who seeks the Lord and gets the answer, and is later granted by Joshua (Joshua 17:3-6) who goes back to look at the records.

So, because Joseph’s physical line was cursed Messiah could not be of his seed, yet the authority of the “house” still remained. The physical line was unblemished on Mary’s side and we see a hint of the virgin birth in “the seed of the woman”, “her seed” in Genesis 3:15. The “adoption” of Joseph by Mary’s father Heli is only possible because of the Daughters of Zelophehad. This completes the family line, making Messiah from the House and Lineage of David, bypassing the Blood Curse of Jeconiah and establishing the throne of David in Jesus Christ, as promised to Mary in Luke 1:32 and pre-recorded in Isaiah 9:6 and 7.

Remember, Jesus came for his own, but they “received him not”. One day, likely in some caves in Bozrah in Edom (Isaiah 63), the Jewish people will realize that they have missed Messiah and this is one of the things that will help them to realize it. Have you ever wondered why, after the Cross of Christ, Satan continues his doomed struggle? The Bible says that the Jews petition Messiah to come back and he does. Hosea 5:15 says, “I will go and return to my place until they acknowledge their offense (that’s interesting, do you mean he left his “place”?), and seek my face (wow!): in their affliction they will seek me early (earnestly).

Friends, Christ is coming back to set things aright on planet earth, but he’ll do it with a sword. Those in Christ are not appointed to wrath (1Thessalonians 5:9 – Revelation 3:10), but rather hidden from the Lord’s wrath (Zephaniah 2:3 – Isaiah 26:20). Look up, your redemption draweth nigh!

Blessings to you all in Christ Jesus….Adam Tousley
