Did you know you could “mark” the online scriptures found at scriptures.lds.org? That, and two very useful ways to search the online scriptures by topic and reference.

“Today, I went out of my way to ask people here in Washington, D.C., if they knew the religious affiliation of the besieged senator from Idaho. I picked on people who were reading newspapers, mainly. Every single one of them said these words or words to this effect: ‘Isn’t he Mormon?‘ ”  Terry Mattingly, asks why people thought Sen. Craig is Mormon. People still refuse to accept the truth.

Of the last 60 inbound links to this blog, about 55 of them are google searches on whether Senator Larry Craig is Mormon.  Nervous Mormons or curious gentiles?

“He’s not running for Mr. Congeniality. He’s running for Mr. Crank. And he’s winning the title.”  LA Times profile of Rep. Jeff Flake and his war on earmarks.   Flake has taken on funding for Christmas trees, grape genetics research, Punxsutawney Phil, and even a fellow Republican and LDS politician’s earmark for a mule museum.  Stopping earmarks may not make a big difference on the bottom line, but it’s a corrupting influence that protects incumbents.

Out of 22 tracked movies, opening day gross estimate for September Dawn comes in at . . . 22nd. Granted, that’s with a fraction of the screens showing for bigger movies, but it’s not getting the reception that some feared (or hoped for).

Temple recommends to be exchanged for updated ones with bar codes.  For security purposes, but I imagine it will be easier to also track attendance.   The article gives an interesting history of the recommend interview.  I’ve heard of this already happening in Utah but no word so far here in Maryland.

Northern Lights
“Northern Lights was created by several established bloggers who are believing members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and who have first-hand experience with issues surrounding homosexuality. Northern Lights is to be a place where we and our readers can openly explore and discuss topics and issues of interest to the LDS community—and particularly as they relate to homosexuality and the Church—in an edifying and uplifting manner and within the framework of commitment to the beliefs and ideals of the Church.”

Variety reviews September Dawn: “Limited commercial prospects will depend on the film’s ability to exploit Mormon outrage — the louder, the better — with its angry and contentious view of a still-disputed tragedy . . . But the pic is ultimately less interested in understanding its Mormon characters than in demonizing them, and a ham-fisted obviousness undermines scene after scene . . . ” (via LDS Newsline)
