Jeff Flake and his war on earmarks.  Flake has taken on funding for Christmas trees, grape genetics research, Punxsutawney Phil, and even a fellow Republican and LDS politician’s earmark for a mule museum. Stopping earmarks may not make a big difference on the bottom line, but it’s a corrupting influence that protects incumbents.
