Who Gets to Answer: “Are Mormons Christians?”: Perhaps there are limits to self-definition, but come on:
A believer insisting that “Mormons are Christians, period,” is somewhat like a Muslim believer saying, “Islam means peace, period.”
The blogger is a religion journalist soliciting questions for the Ostlings, so head on over if you have a suggestion.

I’d have to agree. More literally, Islam means “submission”, implying submission to the divine. It is logical that if one submits to God, who is the author of Peace, peace will follow. How correct the author was. -
I think most inquiring people mean Christianity more as a culture than a system of beliefs. It’s true that our beliefs are Christian, but our culture is so distant from everyone else (no crosses etc.) that I can see why we aren’t “Christian”. That’s OK.

I believe we need to go back to the roots of the word “Christian” to understand what a Christian is, then we can decide who is one. I happen to have just posted on that subject here: http://mormonmysticism.blogspot.com/2007/11/chrism-olive-oil.html

This whole idea of who said the sinners prayer etc goes away.
