LDS Newsroom: “Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All Men — Not Just Those Who Share My Beliefs

Ill-informed comments can be easily forgiven, and chances to engage in discussion to develop mutual, accurate understanding and respect are often seized upon — as they should be. But when a person starts excluding someone of a different faith as a legitimate participant in society because there are theological differences — then a line has been crossed.

Glad to see the church finally speaking up so loudly on behalf of Keith Ellison.

Funny, but I don’t think he needed anyone standing up for him when he ran in 2006. He was hailed as a the first Muslim to be elected and there was very little scrutiny into his association with the Nation of Islam or his other problems .

The coverage was more, “Is our country tolerant enough to accept a Muslim?” rather than “Is Keith Ellison normal and free-thinking enough to be elected, and when is he going to explain his church’s theology so we can scrutinize his personal beliefs?”

    He was handled quite differently.
