Pray for the President’s Success

President Uchtdorf and Elder Ballard reported on their inauguration experience yesterday:

“We could feel the deep emotion around us — we were surrounded by people of all colors, of all creeds and of all languages,” said President Uchtdorf . . . “It was a great experience we had — to see a unity there that I hope will last on and continue throughout the years of this administration.”

and

“I left with a feeling that the people of America are going to unite behind this new president and his administration and that we need to pray for him,” Elder Ballard said. “We need to exercise our prayers and help him accomplish the great objectives that he has set.”

Helpful counsel to encourage all of us to support our new president. After all, we are supposed to honor our rulers.

I don’t think they mean we are supposed to necessarily sign on to the specifics of President Obama’s agenda but his overall efforts to strengthen our nation.

Some encouragement for those of us who didn’t vote for him: the Barack Obama who spoke yesterday sounded a lot different from the one of last year’s primary campaign. Plus, we have an opportunity to not return in kind the derangement syndrome that afflicted many of our fellow citizens for the past eight years.

As my father-in-law wrote in an op-ed this Sunday:

At this point let’s give Obama the benefit of the doubt. After all, his success will be our success.

I agree. I’m sure there will be plenty of issues to disagree and argue over but he is our president. We should hope at the least that he is successful in running and defending our country.

If you need more specifics on how the loyal opposition should behave (or anyone else for that matter), consult this excellent “To Don’t” list for the right.

Brother Larsen has some interesting points. He says:

“Media recession: In an effort to help their Chosen One win the White House, newspapers like the Washington Post, New York Times and Los Angeles Times began talking up recession and even depression several quarters before they actually brought one on. They managed to sow panic among their business customers and reaped declining advertising revenues as a consequence. ”

Wow. The Deseret News ran this!?!?

Anyways, I appreciate your thoughts. I think my most sincere prayer (not my strong suit) was praying for President Bush on 9-11-01.

If you do not fight Obama and Dems with everything you’ve got, you’re not a true conservative. You’re a false Christian if you stand idly by and allow injustice and injury to your fellow Americans. The Dems are not just wrong-headed, they are evil, and they wish to destroy our country. We truly believe that if they are allowed to govern unfettered, they will split or splinter the country. It may ultimately fail completely. We need to fight their policies, destroy their power, their reputation, damage their brand, attack their motives, decry their excesses, stop their programs, fight them on every issue, call them on every crime. The ascension of Obama was NOT a good thing for this country. The man is a stone racist. He despises white people. He indoctrinated his children from birth with a preacher who taught that all whites are evil, greedy, racist, murderous and dishonest. He taught them never to trust a white face, that whites invented AIDs and crack among other thing to keep blacks down and murder them. He taught them that whites have only their own interests at heart, so blacks should do so as well. He is the epitome of what is wrong with black America today, their focus on the “evil” of the white man for all their own problems.

Fight him. Attack him. Smear him. Undermine him. Propagandize against hm and his ilk. We have to start NOW. NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW. To stand by idly or fight in a “gentlemenly” fashion is not just cowardly, ignorant and foolish, it’s traitorous. Damn those who won’t fight Obama and the Dems with EVERY legal means, and most especially our freedom of speech. Let’s give as good as we got over the last 8 years. Do you really contend that if we behave like little nancyboys for the next 8 years, that if a Republican does get in, the Dems won’t again demonize him and drive his ratings to the low 20s?

If you do, you are more than a fool than you look.

    docweasel –

I delinked your site since it’s pornographic and have no idea if you are for real or just a plant to embarrass conservatives. And we certainly have different ideas of what being a Christian is all about.

Sure there is a time and place to argue the issues and challenge Obama’s agenda but that doesn’t mean we have to resort to smearing and “fighting.” As much as I want to stop the liberal agenda I can’t stand all the war and fighting metaphors. We live in a democracy where we argue and present the best arguments, not destroy those who disagree with us.

Approaches like your only discredit you and hurt the cause that you purport to support.

    Wow indeed.

Blessed be the peace maker for they shall be called the children of God.

It seems Obama might be more in tune with Christian and Mormon values than is claimed by a rather incredible outburst above

Pray for your enemies. It seems we may be on the road to Armageddon, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth will bring us distruction and we will not be held guiltless.

George Bush has led us down a path which may lead to world war three with unjustified invasions of foreign nations. It only fuels radical Islam with new conscripts. America must regain the moral high ground and so I pray for Obama. Then Mitt Romney in four years.

Bwahahahaha. That was amazing, docweasel. Whether you’re a real Rushbot or someone paroding one, that was really quite incredible.

    Irish Catholic Mormon,

Mitt is going to need a lot more than prayers.
