The history of the three-fold mission of the Church

Keepapitchinin looks at the history of the three-fold mission of the Church. It goes back much longer than I thought.

Yeah–i remember being struck (as i listened to those old General Conference addresses i mentioned in my comment a few days ago) that the three-fold mission of the church was clearly in place, though not necessarily with that name, back in the 50s. In fact, it may have been around in the 40s, at least in terms of the idea that you could break stuff down that way.

I like the addition of this fourth one, since it fills a logical gap–proclaiming the gospel is directed toward nonmembers and members (the latter through reactivation efforts), as is redeeming the dead, but perfecting the saints ignores the nonmembers.
